Birth: Brent Faiyaz, born Christopher Brent Wood on September 19, 1995, in Columbia, Maryland. His birthplace played a pivotal role in shaping his early experiences, eventually influencing the artist he would become.

Family: Specific details about his family life remain relatively private, but it is known that his parents were not suppourtive of his music carrer and belivied it distracted him from the “important things.”

Influences: Lauryn Hill has been named as the biggest influence on Faiyaz’s music. In an interview with Fact, he revealed that Hill had inspired him to start singing from an early age. Apart from Hill, Faiyaz has drawn inspiration from artists such as Currensy, Lil Wayne, Curtis Mayfield, and Gil Scott-Heron.

Development: He grew up in a relatively “normal” household. He also attended public schools. His childhood devolpment and experinces are not known because he has kept that information private.

Early Career: Brent Faiyaz began making music at the age of 12 (2007), he then went on to graduate high school at the age of 17. He started sharing his experimental music online in 2013, particularly on SoundCloud. He then left his hometown of Columbia and relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, but found it challenging to launch his music career there. Consequently, he made the decision to move to Los Angeles, California.

Middle Career: In 2015, Brent Faiyaz initiated his solo career with the release of “Allure” and followed it up in 2016 with “Invite Me.” On his 21st birthday, he debuted his EP, “A.M. Paradox.” In October 2016, Faiyaz co-founded the group Sonder with Atu and Dpat, and they released their inaugural single, “Too Fast.” Faiyaz’s breakthrough occurred in December 2016 when he featured on GoldLink’s “Crew,” earning him a Grammy nomination as the song achieved 5x Platinum status.

Late Career: Brent Faiyaz’s musical journey continued with his second EP, “F*ck the World,” which debuted in February 2020 and attained notable success, reaching number 20 on the Billboard 200. Following this, he released singles “Dead Man Walking” in September 2020 and “Gravity” in January 2021. In February 2021, another single, “Circles,” was released. The peak of his recent endeavors came on July 8th, 2022, with the release of his second studio album, “Wasteland,” which made number two on the US Billboard 200 chart. Since his debut in 2013, Brent Faiyaz has compiled an impressive discography, including two studio albums and five EPs, while also collaborating with various artists on numerous tracks.

Eventhough Brent has not won any notable awards yet, he has been nominated for both the grammys and BET awards, Iheart Radio, NAACP Image award, and American Music awards. It can be said that an award will be in his future.

Societal Controbutions: Brent tries to put on a benefit concert in his home state each year, along with participating in various initiatives that provide kids with an outlet to express their own talent and creativity. Faiyaz also launched the Show U Off grant program, an initiative designed to uplift and promote businesses owned by Black women.
