Brent Faiyaz is an American Contemporary R&B singer, song writer, and producer. He is distinguished by his smooth and velvet like vocals, creating slow jams that give nostalgic vibes to listeners. It is said that his sound can be described as a mixture of group 112 and The Weeknd. His musical career began in the mid 2010’s as a member of the trio Sonder. His career hit its big break after his appearance on GoldLink’s Grammy nominated song “Crew”.
Christopher Brent Wood, famously known as “Brent Faiyaz” was born on September 19th, 1995 in Columbia Maryland. At the age of 12, Brent began making beats around the house to pass time.. In high school, he was not necessarily a scholar. He was known for being a bad student, and even referenced that in the beginning of his album Sonder Son with a skit of his mom yelling at him about his report card. While in high school, Brent had an interest in rap. He simply saw it as a past time, but overtime, he realized that he was more inclined to sining. Brent believes that he did poorly in school because he had intentions of going into music anyway, so school just did not seem extremely important to him. At the age of 17, his family moved to Charlotte North Carolina, and soon after that, he moved to L.A to pursue his music career. His stage name is a collective of his middle name, and a name he took from a “Muslim homie” (Faiyaz), which means artist in Arabic.
Into the Industry

The song did very well, as it was placed number 45 on the Billboard charts, went triple platinum, and was nominated for a Grammy in the category of the Best rap/ sung Collaboration. Prior to the release of “Crew”, Brent formed a group along with fellow musicians Atu and Dpat, and they would name the group Sonder. The group debuted in 2017 by releasing the EP Into.
