Early Life/Background

Roddy Ricch was born as Rodrick Wayne Moore Jr. on October 22, 1998, in Compton, California. Although he grew up in a Christain household, he began his interest in rap at the young age of eight, and at the age of twelve, he was blessed with the chance to perform for his fellow Compton native, Kendrick Lamar who was a rising artist at the time. While growing up in Compton, Roddy was a member of the Park Village Compton Crips and he has two “C’s” tattooed to symbolize his previous affiliation.

Music Career

Ricch began his music career in 2017 and released his first mixtape, “Feed Tha Streets.” He had his big breakthrough when he released his Be4theFame Ep and single “Die Young,” which became a viral hit that led to him becoming a mainstream artist. Roddy had millions of streams within months and soon this single was certified platinum. That same year 2018, he was brought to perform in the Powerhouse Concert by the late Nipsey Hussle. From there, his career continued to escalate.

Discography

Roddy Ricch’s discography consists of two studio albums, three mixtapes, and 46 singles (including 23 of him being a featured artist). His debut studio album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial (2019), debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and a song from this album “The Box” became Roddy Ricch’s highest-charting song worldwide, spending eleven weeks at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100; as well as topping the charts in Europe.

Achievements & Awards

During his five years in the industry, Roddy Ricch has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards and won one award for Best Rap Performance for “Racks in the Middle” alongside the late Nipsey Hussle and Hit-Boy. Two of his popular songs “The Box” and “Rockstar” received three nominations each at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. In 2020, he had a tie with The Weeknd for the most nominated artists, who were nominated eight times at the 2020 American Music Awards. Overall, he’s won a plethora of awards as well as nominations.
