Review on “Lift Every Voice: Marian Anderson, Florence B. Price And The Sound Of Black Sisterhood”

This article basically explained the history of black woman in the music industry while highlighting black sisterhood.  We all know that “The most disrespected woman in America, is the Black Woman.  The most un-protected person in America is the Black Woman.  The most neglected person in America, is the Black Woman” (Malcolm X).  This article explained why and what black women had to do as a whole to succeed as it pertains to being recognized through music.  During the Women’s Rights Movement, women set up rallies and when around singing their songs to get recognized by everyone else. Although, they new they could die and get punished for doing such actions they did it anyway.

This opened doors for rappers and singers such as Fantasia, Keyshia Cole, Megan the Stallion, Nicki Minaj, etc. This article makes me understand that all throughout life no matter what it was, women had to fight for it. It also makes you realize that even today many women are fighting against men to be recognized in the music industry.
