Review of Folk Article

By: Ariel A. Alvarado

In “African American Folk: The Beginning of Music” by Dorielle Ard, we are taught the origin of folk music, key elements of the musical genre, and a brief synopsis of its importance. The article was well structured, the visual aspect of the page engaging enough to help me to read all the way through. The layout was neat and structured and the information itself was interesting and insightful. Holistically, the article is very informative and gives a nice first-step into learning about Folk music. All the information was easy to understand and laid out in a nice and colorful format. The pictures helped to bolster the article and give good examples for what the writer was explaining.

However, I would prefer if there was more information and if it was presented in a more engaging way. Each portion of the page only contained maybe two sentences and definitely could have had more dates, facts, interesting tidbits, anything that would give me more information so it would feel like an article and not like flashcards. If we would have gone into full detail about all the information presented, instead of surface level facts, it would have been more engaging to read. Also the format was neat, but since there wasn’t a lot of information it was a bit boring to read.
