Folk Music

Folk music originated in the early 60’s 19th century. Stories of lived experiences, historical events and much more is expressed in folk music. it is used as a defense tool to protest and lead positive social change. Most folk music is performed in a country barn setting, so guest can sing and barn dance with the music. Folk music is a storyteller of the suffering black folks encountered during an era of racial injustice. Folk music has a large impact on music genre we listen to more today such as; hip hop, jazz, R&B, and the list continues. Overall folk music is a continuously growing genre of music that has been passed down from generation and generations dedicated to the black community.
