AI and Summer of Soul

AI and summer of Soul

AI’s perspective vs human

What is Summer of Soul?

The Harlem Cultural Festival, took place in the summer of 1969 in Harlem, New York City, is referred to as the “Summer of Soul” in this context. From July 5 to August 24, 1969, the festival took place over six weekends in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park).

To honor African-American music, culture, and civic pride, the Summer of Soul was created. Gospel, soul, R&B, jazz, and blues were just a few of the musical styles that were included during the event. Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, B.B. King, Mahalia Jackson, The Staple Singers, and many other notable African-American performers from the era took the stage.

AI vs Human

My opinion based on Dr. Johnson’s questions that were asked in his post was that AI did a very good job at summarizing what happened at the festival. AI gave detailed responses on who was there, why it was happening and the impacts of it. The one thing AI couldn’t seem to do was add feelings or emotions into its responses. This isn’t the greatest because music evokes such an emotional experience that having a summary of the concert void of emotion can make the entire summary lack a key element.

AI vs Human

The music was filled with emotion especially during this time due to everything going on during this time period. If a human were to give a summary, it would have had that key element on how the music and songs made them feel and how it moved them.
