- Hathaway studied music at Howard University on a full-ride scholarship in 1964.
- After 3 years at Howard, Hathaway left to pursue job opportunities in the record industry.
- Hathaway worked as a producer, arranger, songwriter and session pianist/keyboardist.
- Hathaway worked with Aretha Franklin, Jerry Butler, the Staple Singers and many others.
- Hathaway did a duet with Roberta Flack, covering Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend.” The cover reached Top Ten on the R&B charts.
- Hathaway and Flack released an album of duets in 1972 which topped the R&B charts, went Top Five in pop and won a Grammy.
- Hathaway died at the age of 33.
