Origin
Gospel music originated in the 1800s from the Christian religion within black churches. The Father of Gospel music is said to be Thomas A. Dorsey who began the use of jazz and blues styles within gospel songs. Gospel continued to evolve over the years especially within the 1930s but always styaed true to the purpose which is sharing the work of God.
Characteristics
It’s very spiritual music and consists of things such as call/response, shouting and styles from other musical genres.
