A Message to Hip Hop at 50 from Nazzi

Dear Hip Hop,

I truly love you. You may not know exactly who I am but I know you for you. I wanted to take a moment to thank you for what you’ve done for our world. You are more than a musical genre; you are a culture, an art form, and a tremendous force for change and self-expression.

Your humble beginnings on the streets of New York City, when DJs, MCs, and dancers created something genuinely unique, have developed into a worldwide sensation. You’ve given the voiceless a voice, empowered the underprivileged, and told the experiences of groups that are frequently forgotten. Your beats and lyrics have acted as a blank canvas on which artists have painted images of their lives, problems, hopes, and aspirations. You have an impact on more than just music; it also extends to fashion, dance, and even how people communicate. It’s magical how you combine various components, such as rhythm, poetry, and storytelling. You’ve united individuals from all walks of life by bridging geographic boundaries and linguistic barriers. Your rhythms have provided the music for innumerable get-togethers, occasions, and happy times. People who are going through difficult times have found solace and a sense of community in your lyrics.

Legends like Tupac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, and many others were first presented to the world by you. Both society and music have been forever changed by these performers. Over the years, you’ve also changed and evolved, adopting new sounds and styles, which has helped you stay current and motivate younger people.Despite opposition and controversy, you have managed to persevere while utilizing your influence to bring people together and promote healing. It’s very amazing how you’ve been able to reinvent yourself by adding new viewpoints and voices.Your multiple genre’s like, Reggae, Rhythm & Blues, Jazz, Funk, Chopped & Screwed, Old school, Trap and many more shows how versatile and different you can be. So continue developing, motivating us, and causing us to sway to the rhythm of life.

I believe that your future is truly bright and you’re only gonna get bigger and better. You’ve changed so many lives and you’ll continue to do so as long as you reign (which I think will be forever).

I LOVE YOU HIP HOP !!!

Sincerely, A fellow Bronx Native, Nazzi
