Our music has evolved so much over the centuries. From gospel hymns to trap music, a lot has changed in genre and taste. Trying to understand the lyrics and meaning in African American music is important so you can understand the evolution and get a feel for how much we have adapted today. Our culture is forever changing and transforming and we show that through our music. When looking back on our music from centuries ago, we can see how irrepressible and resilient we have become and also how much further we can go. African American music is not just any kind of music, it is music with meaning and voice and it is why we are who we are today.
