What Difference Does It Make?

Many Americans downplay the role that music plays in our lives, and exactly where these styles stem from. Over time, African Americans have paved the way for all music whether slavery, Civil Rights, or just plain protests. While this has been the case since the beginning of time, our people have not received the credit they deserve. The white man has benefitted from our own ideas and creations. Realistically, we were never expected to be accredited with our works. Slave owners took Negro Spirituals, and published them under their name. This set the tone for decades to come. We, as African Americans, must reclaim our identity by no longer allowing this to continue, and it starts with our generation.
