What Difference Does it Make

As African Americans, music is incredibly important to our culture. When our ancestors were brought over as slaves, it was expected that their culture and, along with it, music would be lost but this was far from true. The slaves used their music as a form of communication and rebellion. It was a source of comfort and the only voice they truly had since they had so little power.

The importance of music, especially music from Black artists, has made a huge difference in our society. Without the music of our ancestors, music would be nothing like it is today because the white artists would have nothing to imitate. It would be incredibly bland because we would not have the different rhythms, beats, and styles that the slaves brought over with them.
