We Call It Appropriation

After having their homes, families and dignity stripped away during slavery, all the African Americans had left was their minds, but then the white people took that too and called it their own. African Americans are very innovative and resilient people. The blues genre is a testament to that as it reflects on the hardships of black people. Their lyrics speak of their pain as they paint a picture of their lives through song.

During the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, it was very easy for white people to relabel the blues music as country and rock and roll. They took the products of pain that they probably caused and could never truly understand and turned it into a profit. They never credited the African Americans for their ideas and still do not till this day. The African American blues musicians as well as so many who have come after them have been defrauded, and the corruption has yet to stop.
