SiR
Thesis
SiR’s emergence into the music world is a reflection of the development of a new sound, particularly in R&B. SiR’s style and tone draws listeners into the beauty of alternative R&B, a genre characterized by indie sounds and reverberated vocals.
Sir Darryl Farris (SiR) was born November 8, 1986 in Inglewood, California. SiR’s familial ties hold strong in the music industry, including being the son of gospel artist Jackie Gouché and cousin of soul artist Tiffany Gouché. Older brother D Smoke has also made his mark in music through his rapping and songwriting skills. Coming from a family of musicians certainly exposed SiR to great music early on. He attributes his musical influences to the works of Stevie Wonder, Musiq Soulchild, Missy Elliott, Jay Z, and more.
SiR’s musical development stems back from the young age of 18, when he began shadowing older brother Davion (D Smoke). He then went on to obtain a recording arts degree from the Los Angeles Film School. In 2007, SiR worked for Tyrese as a music engineer, developing his own songwriting style in his free time. SiR eventually made the transition from songwriter to solo artist with the release of his debut album, Seven Sundays, crediting his desire to find “homes” for the songs he wrote.
After SiR’s engineering work with Tyrese, his professional career blossomed into co-writing material for renowned artists Ginuwine, Jill Scott, and Stevie Wonder. Prior to releasing his debut album, SiR featured on Anderson .Paak’s “Already” from the 2014 Venice album. Seven Sundays, the debut album, was released July 31, 2015, featuring Iman Omari, Anderson .Paak, and D Smoke. The album was very successful, catching the attention of record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), leading to SiR’s eventual signing in January of 2017. Prior to releasing his second album, SiR released EPs HER in 2016 and HER TOO in 2017. The sophomore album November was finally released in January of 2018, featuring ScHoolboy Q and Etta Bond. Chasing Summer, SiR’s third and most recent album was released in August of 2019, boasting features of Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Smino, Jill Scott, and others.
