They Left Us Blue: The Commodification of Blues Music

Black people have had everything stripped away from them that one could possibly think of from the dawn of time. Through trials and tribulations the one thing that the Black community collectively had to keep hope alive was their brilliant, creative minds that housed a history that we know as music. Every genre that has came about came from the creative process of a black person. When something as prominent as music, to be specific, good music comes about the White man leaves the black community black and blue. How so? By stealing creative processes and making it their own. For example, the White man heard the beautiful creation that was Blues and took it and called it Rock and Roll. The beauty of creativity that Black people have once again became the White mans dollar. This cruel reality still occurs today and will always be present in the history of music forever leaving the Black community black and blue.
