The Music Institute

The Music Institute

“The Music Institute” was the worlds first techno club. It was started by four young Detroit natives George Baker, Alton Miller, Anthony Pierson, and Frank Moore. Originally, they rented out spaces in abandoned buildings and warehouses around the inner city to hold parties. The Music Institute was open from midnight till 6 am and was devoted to playing strictly techno music. Contrary to what many people associate techno music with, the Music Institute was a drug-free venue. Membership was required to enter and alcohol and drug use were prohibited. The Music Institute provided a platform for techno lovers of all ages to be carefree and have a great time.
