Naturally, Blues’ rich roots were planted in Africa. The genre is deeply emotional and based on the spirituals, field hollers and call-and-response music traditions in African American culture. Blues came at a time when Black Americans were deep in the fight for their rights, and it became a staple genre that helped them to be able to communicate their hardships during that time. Originating in Mississippi, the Blues greatly spread with the Great Migration in 1910-1970.
