Cultural Appropriation Through The Commodification of Blues Music

Blues music is deeply rooted in African American history. The soulful and enriched sound of this music is one that conveys the plight of Blacks. It also exemplifies the creative genius of African Americans historical and present. Although blues music originated from Blacks, European bands took blues music from Blacks and popularized it by creating rock and roll. This exemplifies the commodification of blues music. The sound of blues drastically changed as it was transformed from blues to rock and roll. Blues music became a commodity when its cultural history was lost.
