New York is a state full of hopes and dreams. To succeed in New York, it takes hard work, determination, and (in this generation) relatable music and a catchy beat. There are several artists that have become successful in New York, but there is one upcoming artist that has caught the attention of millions of people. Artist Julius Dubose, most people know him by his aliases; A Boogie wit da Hoodie. “Few rappers have had a come-up like A Boogie wit da Hoodie has had” (Lyons, 2011). A Boogie wit da Hoodie was born on December 6, 1995 in Bronx, NY in the neighborhood of Highbridge. DuBose grew up in a household with his parents and his record. There are no records on about his parents and siblings name. During DuBose teenage years he started to get himself into trouble. “Dubose frequently got into legal trouble, mainly for selling cannabis and narcotics, after finding out when he was sixteen, Dubose’s parents sent him to Florida as punishment” (T4C, 2019). Throughout the time Dubose spent in Florida, it allowed him to focus on his music.
At the age of 19 Dubose released his first song, which was produced by Myster Whyte. Due to his unprofessional music style critiques, “The song took months to make due to Dubose’s perceived lack of rap flow at the time. Dubose hired a singing coach to help improve his singing coach to help him improve his singing voice…” (T4C, 2019). Because of this minor setback these techniques helped him become the infamous American rapper that he is today. If you are from New York, you most likely know that some A Boogie’s best songs/album’s usually come after a break up. In February of 2016, A Boogie released an album titled “Artists” which was inspired by his “diffucult” breakup. This iconic album landed A Boogie on the Forbes up-and-coming artist list. The come up of A Boogie has been an indescribable journey. “He is best known for his single “Drowning”, Which peaked at number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His debut studio album, The Bigger Atist, was released on September 29, 2017 and debuted at numbeer four on the Billboard 200 chart. He later went on to release his second studio album, HoodieSZN, on December 21, 2018 and became his first number one album on the Billboard 200. He is signed to Highbridgeb the Label anf Atantic Records” (T4C, 2019).
Even though they are no records on Dubose’s parents and siblings, they are records of his new family which consist of his girlfriend, Ella Rodiguez, and his daughter, Melody Valentine.
For a while now everybody has been wondering how A Boogie came up with his name; according to T4C, “DuBose told Newsweek, “I used to watch Paid in Full every day when I was 12, 13, and then I started rapping and everybody would call me A Boogie [a character from the film].And then the foodie came along because I was wearing hoodies all the time” (T4C, 2019).
In closing, A Boogie has become an “overnight” sensation. Dubose has only been in the game for 4-5 years and has already made an impact on the music industry. He used his hopes and dreams and turned it into reality.
