The Clark Sisters in Gospel Music

Introduction

The Clark Sisters are a group originally consisting of five sisters from Detroit Michigan who have used music to become a dominant group in the Gospel realm. The Clark Sisters consisted of Twinkie Clark, Karen  Clark Sheard, Jacky Clark Chisholm, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and Denise Clark-Bradford. They are the daughter of choir directer and gospel musician Dr. Mattie Moss Clark who played a pivotal role in making their career successful. They began singing at their Father’s Church of God in Christ at a young age.

Impactful music

The Clark Sisters are credited for being some of the pioneers for contemporary gospel music as well as  being a part of helping to bring gospel to the mainstream. Some of the Clark Sister’s most notable songs are “Is My Living in Vain”, “Ha-Ya (Eternal Life)”, and “You Brought The Sunshine”. The Clark sisters have made many contemporary gospel songs that have earned them many awards including two Grammy awards as well as made them the highest selling female gospel group in history.

The Clark Sisters Today

Over the ears one of the sisters, Denise, did depart from the group. After decades of success, many of the Clark sisters have done solo projects and explored solo careers. However, the Clark Sisters still make music and perform together. Some of the children of the sisters have also launched successful careers in gospel music.  There was also a lifetime movie made in 2018 about the Clark Sisters and their career that led to more popularity and modern knowledge of them. Overall, the Clark sisters have made an amazing impact on the gospel music industry and their legacy will live on for years to coke.
