“The Banjo is a Negro Instrument”

The Banjo is typically made up of Maplewood. Its major components are the body head and neck. The head is a small membrane made of animal skin. Banjos normally consist of three to four strings. The earliest reference to the instrument was in the 17th century. It is known as a African American tradition rooted back to West Africa.

This wouldn't be surprising, as African and African American music and dance have a history of imitating the everyday sounds and movements of people and animals.
