Techno Post: Detroit Techno

In 1970s, Detroit radio stations were divided into two different types. One would only play songs by caucasian DJs, and the other would only play African American DJ songs. DJ Charles Johnson took his risk and played both songs including P-Funk and YMO. This ended up influencing three high school students who later became the founders of Detroit Techno.

1. Juan Atkins – A representative of Detroit Techno. On top of Funk, he added spacious atmosphere.

2. Derrick May – A friend of Juan Atkins. His music is minimalist and has the most influence from Funk.

3. Kevin Saunderson – “Good Life” was on pop chart. He was successful establishing a techno unit “Inner City”, which has female vocalist.
