Techno Music

Techno music emerged in the mid to late 1980s in Detroit. It was a mix of African American styles of music like Chicago house, funk, jazz, and electro. Techno was developed by four main people, Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, and Eddie Fowlkes. Original techno music came from funk and soul roots. Detriot has had such a heavy influence on techno music that it has its own exclusive genre “Detriot Techno”. By the late 80s and 90s, Techno became popular in the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Germany.

Techno music consists of drums, keyboards, electronic instruments, and samplers from a computer. The tempos range from 120-150 beats per minute. The many forms of Techno music was seen in African American dance clubs.
