Techno
Techno is a genre of music which emerged during the 80s through the rise of computers. It is a form of dance music created electronically using software that mimics instruments and usually has little to no lyrics. Techno originated in Detroit in the mid to late 1980s. The Bellville Three is the all Black group credited with inventing Detroit Techno. The group is comprised of three producers, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson, who have known each other since high school. Pictured below are the previously mentioned group, The Bellville Three, along with other Black iconic names in Techno, Carl Cox, Technotronic, Jeff Bills, Green Velvet, and Black Velveteen.
Techno’s primary purpose is to make people dance and have a good time. It serves as club music thus the genre was very popular amongst urban club scenes. Since the sound was primarily created electronically It was played by traveling Black DJ’s throughout the 90’s. The techno songs which came from live bands would tour and amass large crowds.
