The Jubilee Period from 1880 to 1928 gave us Jubilee Quartets. Typically quartets would include 4 men of 4 different voice parts. Those include bass, baritone, tenor one and tenor two which all combine to produce rich tones and harmonies. The quartets gained substantial popularity in the 1930s with the growth of radio usage in homes and cars. Notable groups like the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Soul Stirrers, and Golden Gate Quartet followed the Jubilee Format. As Gospel music became more popular, quartets became intertwined in church services as well.
