Tabernacle Choir Hope World Tour: w/ Spelman and Morehouse GLEE Club
On Wednesday, September 11th, 2024 the Spelman and Morehouse GLEE Club were honored to join the Tabernacle Choir: Hope World Tour at the State Farm Arena here in Atlanta, GA. Conducted by DR. DAVID E. MORROW and DR. KEVIN JOHNSON the two groups put on a mind-blowing performance.
The two choirs while giving two different performances showed the greatness and vocal ranges of its members. The Morehouse GLEE Club gave a traditional choir format, the singing of an African American spiritual best displayed the beauty of their deep tones. Opening with “Great and Glorious” showed their appreciation for established genres. With strong soloist joined by the strength of their peers the songs never fell flat. On opposite the Spelman GLEE Club put on an upbeat and vibrant rendition of Wade in the Water amped up the energy in the arena. The strong lead sang opera like notes and was backed by the various vocals. The ensembles power was furthered in their presentation of “Children Go Where I Send Thee”, the use of instruments and the movement of the group gave a lively impression that was heightened by the spirit of the conductor Dr. Kevin Johnson.
Overall I was utterly impressed by both the ensembles. it shows why they received such an upstanding invitation to perform on the tour. The different variations of the classic songs were unfamiliar to me but made the performance intriguing and kept my attention. The Spelman and Morehouse GLEE Club commanded the audiences attention and did not let go of it until they left the stage. Their presence was still felt even when the speakers returned to the mic. Their impact was the best edition to the entirety of the show.
The Spelman and Morehouse GLEE Club showed up and represented their respective schools dominating the stage, their sound, melodies, and conductors never missed a beat.
