Having it roots in New Orleans, jazz music stared in the early 20th century. After ragtime became white washed, Creole citizens were forced to create a new genre of music. Buddy Bolden was first known artist to popularize jazz music. Jazz is a combinations of Blues, Gospel, Ragtime, and Classical. Jazz is the most freeforming style of music. It uses intruments like pianos, drums, and trumpets, as well as others. Jazz is a deeply intricate genre as it has many different genres within the genre- for example, modal, fusion, bebop, cool, hard, and traditional amongst others. The subgenres came about as traditional jazz was white washed which made it less profitable for Black artists. Bebop became the next prominent form of jazz and so forth. Jazz would go on to fuel the future genres like rap/hip-hop and future soul music.
