This photo was a creation by me, upon the genres of Soul, Funk, Gospel, Funk, Disco and R&B. In the center top part of the piece you see a 5 dollar bill as well as a 10 dollar bill, underneath both of them is the statement, ” But We Need Our Money” and underneath that is a question, ” Where is our money?”. This was a representation of the lack of recognition both socially and financially black people have obtained for the significant role we have played in all of these genres including many before. The black women in the middle with the Afro is the representation of the Soul and also the strength of her own people, while we have a lot recognition yet to happen, she provides the strength that we continue to push forward.
