Sly Stone,who’s birth name is Sylvester Stewart was born March 15, 1943 in Denton, Texas.His siblings are Loretta, Freddie, Rose, and Vaetta, known as Vet. He is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer. He received the name ‘Sly’ in grade school by someone misspelling his name. Sly Stone is the front man for Sly and the Family Stone and he also composed all of the bands music.

The band was formed in 1966. They were discovered at a club called Winchester Cathedral in Redwood City. Their music inspired an era of youthful rebellion and independence. Their music was a fusion of psychedelic rock, soul, gospel, jazz, and Latin flavors, Sly’s music brought the next step…..FUNK! They were pivotal in the development of funk, soul, rock, and psychedelic music. Sly and the Family Stones was the first major American hit making rock group that was interracial, mixed-gender band. A few of their most known works were “Stand!,” “Hot Fun In the Summertime,” “Runnin’ Away,” “If You Want Me To Stay,” “Time For Livin’,” In 1993 the band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
