Saturday Night Fever

Disco is a genre that originated out of night clubs in the United sates during the 1970’s. The term disco emerged out of the French word, discotheque, which means library of phonograph records. Disco was a popular genre in the gay community especially but also in African American and latino communities. Some of the first disco-like clubs arose in New York private parties. This genre was made up of a steady four-on-the-floor beat.

The disco era was known for it’s flashy clothes and bright colors. Metallic wrapped clothing or bell bottom pants  with a halter-neck tops completed with slingback sandals or platform boots was a typical outfit for most women at the time. Leotards and bodysuits also hit the clubs and were worn by both sexes along with afros.
