Hip Hop– Tupac Shakur Thug Life

Tupac Shakur

Tupac Amaru Shakur (most known as 2pac)  was born Lesane Parish Crooks (original name) on June 16th, 1971 in Harlem. Both of his parents Afeni Shakur and Billy Garland, were active members of the Black Panther Party in New York. The family  moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1986 and this is when 2pac was introduced to the arts. He studied acting, poetry, jazz, and ballet at Baltimore School for the Arts. He performed in Shakespeare plays and in the The Nutcracker. In 1988, the family relocated again to Los Angeles, California. He continued to stay involved in the arts by participating in several productions in the school’s drama department.

2pac began his rise to fame when he debuted in Digital Underground’s “Same Song” from the film Nothing but Trouble (1991). In 1991, 2pac also released his debut solo album,  2Paclypse Now. Even though the album did not generate any hit singles , he gained recognition from many music experts. He talked about police brutality throughout the album. Here are a few songs:

In 1993, 2pac released his second album, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z.. This album went platinum and was considered his “breakout album”. Throughout the album he shared his political and social views. Here are a few songs:

In 1995, 2pac released his third album, Me Against The World. This album is considered one of the most “greatest and influential hip hop albums of all time”. He are a few songs from the album:

All Eyez on Me was 2pac’s fourth album and is considered the “best production” he has ever had. It went 5x platinum after 2 months of its release and 9x platinum in 1998. Here are some songs from this album:

In addition to his successful hip-hop career, 2pac played huge roles in movies as well. He starred in Nothing but Trouble (1991), Juice (1992), Poetic Justice (1993), and Above the Rim (1994).

Unfortunately 2pac died at the young age of 25. He was murdered on the night of September 7th, 1996 after leaving the Bruce Seldon vs. Mike Tyson boxing match in Las Vegas, Nevada. His death was so hard to get over that even til this day there are rumors that 2pac is still alive but in Cuba.

Although his life ended shortly, 2pac’s legacy still lives on today. He is considered the “most influential rapper ever” by many artists.  I agree with statement as well. He used his talents to tell stories about the struggle of being black and growing up in the inner cities. Many artists even in today’s times say that they look up to 2pac. The fact that he had the ability to reach many audiences while still mastering the art of storytelling shows that he is the greatest rapper of all time.
