Ragtime: The Best Time
Ragtime first developed back in the 19th century (1893-1917) in St. Louis, Missouri. It is best known for its unique syncopated rhythm. The most common instruments used in this genre are piano and the banjo.
The King of Ragtime:
Scott Joplin is definitely the King of Ragtime. He was a composer and pianist. He is most known for his pieces of work “The Maple Leaf Rag” and “The Entertainer.” Throughout his career, Joplin was able to write 44 original ragtime pieces, one ragtime ballet, and surprisingly two operas.
