Ragtime Era

Ragtime was developed in St. Louis, Missouri. The Ragtime era lasted from 1896 to 1920. This time period was known as the Roaring 20s. Ragtime later transformed into Jazz. This genre of music was known for piano playing. The left hand was known for the easy piano notes. The right hand was known for syncopation which also known for swag. Pianos was the most used instrument in Ragtime. Black people were able to express themselves through playing the piano. Some well known artists in Ragtime are Scott Joplin, Eubie Blake, James P. Johnson, and James Scott. Some well known songs are Carolina Shout, Frog Legs Rag, Maple Leaf Rag, and many more.
