RagTime
Rag Time is a musical genre that has been the soundtrack of the mid-1890s within the United States. The music is known for it having a prominent piano within it along with other instruments such as the bass, trumpet and fiddle. It is best known for syncopation, which before was not really done by the white music world. This music is from the south and were known as “coon songs” that were played during cake walks, meaning that the songs were composed to be danced too. The genre is not as popular today, but it is still used today in musicals, television shows and movies as part of the soundtrack. One ragtime hit that is still popular today it the “Maple Leaf Rag” by Scott Joplin, who was a popular ragtime artist.
Scott Joplin was an American ragtime artist who was known was the “king of ragtime”. He studied piano in multiple schools within the United States and eventually was good enough to become a concert piano which kick-offed his careers. After this is where the “Maple Leaf Rag” was composed along with other hits.
Blind Blake was an American ragtime artists know for playing ragtime guitars. He was known for his “flying fingers”. He was famous for the hit “Diddie Wa Diddie”. He career ended in the 1930s where he disappeared.
