Biography

Kelly Rowland was born on February 11, 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia. At a young age, she started singing; she was inspired by Whitney Houston. Following her interest in singing, she began singing in her church’s choir. However, once she moved to Houston, Texas, she befriended Beyoncé Knowles. In the mid ’90s the two girls started a girls group: Destiny’s Child. It’s debut was in 1997 with the song, “No No No”. A year later they released their first album Destiny’s Child that went platinum. Two albums followed The Writings on the Wall (1999) and Survivor (2001).  Both albums were received exceedingly well by fans. After this she took a break along with the rest of her band members. During this time, she wrote music for her first solo album Simply Deep. In 2004, after Destiny’s Child released their last album Destiny Fullfilled, she went on tour with the group. Then, she wrote and released her second solo album, Ms. Kelly. It was number 6 on the Billboard 200. She split with her current label and signed with Universal Motown where she came out with her third album, Here I Am, (2011). Her single of 2011, “Motivation” feat Lil Wayne stayed on the top of the Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Charts for many weeks. It was produced by Rico Love and Jim Jonsin. Her fourth album Talk A Good Game includes appearances from Beyonce and Michelle Williams (another member from the Destiny’s Child girl group).

Dirty Laundry

Is an honest song by Kelly that discloses the several emotions that she felt throughout her musical career during and after the time she spent singing “in the shadow” of Beyonce in Destiny’s Child.  This song was a single from the album ‘Talk a Good Game”and it was a instant hit because of how she opened up to her fans in a new way.

"Crown" A Collaboration with Dove (Brand)

In an interview with Aol.com, Kelly Rowland discusses her most recent single “Crown” She explains that she released the song along with its music video in partnership with Dove. The songs message is to embrace oneself especially in concerns to one’s hair.  She states that, “I was really excited when I heard about the campaign surrounding hair and having women celebrate their hair, no matter what color or texture or type. It reminded me immediately of the little Kelly, who went through a lot of stuff as a kid with her own hair.”

Why Shouldn’t I take the final exam?

I believe that I should be exempt from the final because I have always made sure to upload all my posts on time. Before the midterm, I received excellent grades on all of my posts. I also did very well on the actual midterm, as I scored a 101%. I even made efforts to complete the extra credit post simply because I liked the Funk/Disco genre that we were studying during the time.
