Parliament Funkadelic and Afrofuturism: Literally Out of This World

From a millienials point of view, Parliament Funkadelic is an out of the ordinary group. Upon seeing the outfits, the ,music, the instruments, and the people performing, a instantly thought… What the heck were people on in the 70’s?

It’s almost as if the whole band was from the future. The Parliament Funkadelic (P-Funk). Turns out, p-funk is dot just a band, it’s a genre. It began with George Clinton, who created two bands named Parliament and Funkadelic in Detroit, Michagan

The Parliament Funkadelic led by George Clinton is known for its message and image of Afrofuturism. Afrofuturism is the combination of the futurism, science fiction, and black people and their experiences. This image of afrofuturism is one is an important image to see because African American’s are rarely represented in futuristic artwork, or movies. It is almost is if in the western culture, black people are not part of the future. That is why I saw Parliament Funkadelic as “weird” at first. Now, I look at Parliament Funkadelic and I see the future, a see science ficiton, I see something that is “out of this world”. Mentally, being exposed to bands, genres such as the Parliament Funkadelic exposes the mind to something that it’s never seen before… a new image of the future, not just one Star Wars, or Star Trek, but one like The Wiz.
