Black People in the Musical Theater

African Americans were able to express themselves through acting. Majority of the musical theaters happened in New York City. White people would make fun of black people with black face. The white people would pain the face the color black and act how they portrayed black people to be. They would create dance and comedy routines for shows. My favorite musical theater is Dream Girls. Dream Girls is about a all women R&B group. The inspiration behind Dream Girls is the Supremes.  Another well known musical theater is The Wiz. This includes different music genres and Michael Jackson started in it. The Wiz became the black version of The Wizard of Oz. Some of the popular songs is Home and Ease on Down. African Americans showed that we can be apart of the visual arts too in a positive light. We let her talents be shown to the world to inspire other African Americans to pursue a career in the arts.
