The style the Riperton is known for singing in is Soul. Her light and airy sounding voice with its massive range was unique to her. Few can replicate her vocal arrangements in the correct octave and style. People that inspired her that she encountered with early on in her career singing backup for were, Etta James, Chuck Berry,  and Muddy Waters.
