Marian Anderson Review

Brittney James

I really enjoyed this article because as a young Black woman it is always reassuring to know that Black women had major roles in the past society, even when they were not allowed to. After reading this article, I believe that Marian Anderson as a public figure should be just as known as the progressive Black men in that time period, like Martin Luther King Jr. or Malcolm. What bothered me the most is that Marian still wasn’t allowed to eat at certain restaurants. She was in spaces of true importance, and still had to find a “plan B” to eat or even a place to stay.

The only critique I have is to add a video of her singing, it was just be easier for the audience to hear her instead of searching for a video.
