Mariah Carey was born March 27, 1970 and is 47 years old. She is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. In 1990, she rose to fame with the release of “Vision of Love” from her eponymous debut album. In 1998, she was honored as the world’s best-selling recording artist of the 1990s at the World Music Awards and subsequently named the best-selling female artist of the millennium in 2000. She has a vocal range spanning five octaves and is exponent of the “melisma” style of vocal articulation where several different notes are often sung over the length of a word or syllable. She is the only female artist (and second artist or group ever) to have 18 #1 songs on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts.
