Africa to America

During the era of the Civil War, African Americans used music as a way to pass down the origins of slavery. In the years prior to slavery, music derived from Africa before it’s natives were forced to travel to the United States. 

Because of the African culture that has been influenced in the African American community, music has been the main point of expression for many African Americans. African music has opened doors for a wide variety of music genres.
