Jubilee Quartet

The period where jubilee occurred was between the lat 19th and 20th century and it was used to finance universities and colleges during hardships. Fisk University was the first to develop a quartet and they were known as the Fisk Jubilee Singers. Other universities took note of this and formed their own jubilees, which explains the popularity they gained. The quartets consisted of usually 4 singers, 2 tenors, 1 bass, and 1 barature. African-American quartets quickly caught the attention of audiences, due to their unique musical styles.  There are 4 types of quartets: minstrel jubilee, community-based quartets, sacred harp, and gospel quartets. There were also 3 stages known as the jubilee quartets, transitional, and gospel.
