ABOUT THREE 6 MAFIA

Three 6 Mafia originated in Memphis, TN, a city that was modeled after ancient Egyptian architecture. The group of

six members: Crunchy Black, Gangsta Boo, Lord Infamous, Koopsta Knicca, Juicy “J”, and DJ paul, formed in 1991. In

1998, DJ Paul played the piano while Lord Infamous sang and practiced the base and electric guitar. Juicy J, dj’d

and became interested in rap, even though he originally wanted to be a singer. DJ Paul asked Juicy J for help, and

they both enjoyed each other’s music styles. They soon formed the group named “Da Serial Killaz”, and released

their first original record “Portrait of a Serial Killa”.

THEIR RISE TO FAME

The first album Three 6 Mafia released was “Come with me to Hell pt. 1” . Some of their most famous songs on the

album included “Take Care of Yo Business” and “Too Deep to Breathe”. Koopsta Knicca, Gangsta Boo, and Crunchy

Black also joined the group in 1994. Their most famous song was “Smoked Out Loced Out”, which became a classic

despite being a cover. The members aged 15-21 had demonstrated confidence and awareness of their skills and

this record put them on the map. They would go on to create “Slob on My Knob”, “Sippin on Some Syrup”, “Who Run

It”, “Testin my Gangsta”, and other hits. Three 6 Mafia was the first hip hop group to win an Academy Award for

2006. This group is said to be coming back as a new group after two members, Lord Infamous and Koopsta Knicca,

passed away. If they do release a new album, it would be their tenth.

HOW DID I DISCOVER THREE 6 MAFIA? WHAT DO THEY MEAN TO ME?

I was Introduced to this group when I was younger. My father loved rap and we would ride around Newark, NJ listening to

artists like Three 6 Mafia. He enjoyed rap and I took on a part of this music style and it has even opened me up to rock and

metal. I appreciate this genre of music, although it is harsh, it keeps me knowledgeable and able to truly observe the life of

the people depicted in their songs. It allows me to step into another world and take messages that can help me within my

 own world.
