Jazz

Jazz originated in New Orleans, Louisiana from the 1920s to the present. This genre is a mix of ragtime and blues. There are many different genres of jazz like modal, funk, fusion, bebop, traditional, swing, and others. Some well known Jazz artists are Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and many other talented artists. A fun fact is that New Orleans Jazz was the earliest form of jazz. Different jazz genres specialize in specific categories. For example, bebop uses the piano and bass drum. Bebop is for the listening audience rather than the dancing audience. Bebop developed from the mid 1940s to the mid 1950s. Jazz had a big influence on the Harlem Renaissance. It was a time for African Americans to express their struggles and celebrate black art and culture. This was their way of moving away from the white Americans ways and ideas. Jazz has influenced music that we listen to today.
