Jada Lowery

Hi! I’m Jada Lowery, a first-year Health Science major on the pre-nursing track from New Haven, Connecticut, with aspirations of becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. In my free time I love spending time with my family and friends, baking, and shopping. While I’m not musically gifted, I love listening to music and learning about the context in which it was made. 

My favorite artist is definitely SZA. She has music for just about every feeling you can imagine, and she’s one of the most down-to-earth and relatable artists I’ve come across. I really value how relatable music is; I think that’s a true measure of talent. It’s easy to sing about superficial things like wealth or fleeting relationships, but real talent shines through when an artist can be vulnerable and connect with their audience on a deeper level, and SZA definitely does that.

One of my all-time favorite songs of hers is “Drew Barrymore.” It describes the essence of teenage love and the challenges women often face in seeking understanding and appreciation, especially during their formative years. She expresses how tough it can be to accept yourself when the world seems to want you to be something else, by using this metaphorical relationship. Plus, the song’s title hints at its meaning; Drew Barrymore is known for her unconventional roles and her challenging upbringing, which adds another layer to the song.
