I’ve Got The Blues: Blues While Black.

History

The gene originated during the 1920s in the southern states. During the time of this genre’s rising Black people desired to move away from musical forms tied to slavery, such as spirituals. Blues emerged during the Jim Cow time period. The new sound held “blue notes” and used a wide range of instruments (especially slide guitar), wind, and brass instruments. Black people although creating a new genre of music oitside of spirtuals, still the songs told a story. The stories that the lyrics   expressed are a story of  a stong desire, longing, loss, or sad love which attracted the name of “Blues” .

From the abolition of slavery, a new form of music began to emerge. Black people newly free from the bonds of slavery  expressed their disappointment in a post-slavery society. This genre became known as the blues.
