People now generally think of house as an electronic offspring of disco although it was originally an abbreviation for the Warehouse which was an influential dance warehouse in Chicago where DJ Frankie Knuckles played in 1977. Another definition of house was more focused on its production quality because unlike disco it was predominately music made from home instead of a professional production studio. With home technology like MIDI becoming more accessible and affordable, DJ’s like Knuckles, Farley Funk, and Larry Heard were inspired to make music with analog synthesizers. This sound became the main indicator of house music.
