Hip Hop

Hip Hop originated in New York City starting in the 70’s. It was a new creative outlet for African Americans. Records, turntables, DJ’s and MC’s were vital to the creation of hip hop. The break beat allowed a particular section of a record to play on an endless loop. This made it easier for rappers to rap on records at party’s. The golden age of hip hop made room for artist to rap about the black experience and their environment. The message by Grand Master Flash gave people an inside look on what life in the Bronx was like. Rapping like disco gave way to its own style, dance moves and practices. Graffiti was popularized through rap.
