Hip Hop Movement
Hip Hop was created by African Americans, Latinos, and Caribbean Americans. This genre originated in the Bronx, New York during the 1970s to present day. Hip Hop was associated with graffiti, break dancing, and DJ breaking. The six elements of hip hop was consciousness awareness, civil rights awareness, activism awareness, justice, political awareness, and community awareness. Hip hop was an outlet for African Americans to express their struggles, experiences, and beauty of being black. Some of the topics they would rap about is poverty, police brutality, projects, childhood trauma, and racist comments about being black. Some artists from the hip hop genre are NWA, Salt and Pepa, LL Cool J, Nas, Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls, Dr. Dre, Mac Dre, Too Short, and Slick Rick. Some of the elements are MCing, musical depth, and DJing.
